Terms of Service
Effective date: upon first public release.
WildFire-Ready is a free, ad-free wildfire preparedness app for British Columbia and Alberta. It is funded by community grants and built by a solo developer. By installing and using the app you agree to these plain terms. They are short on purpose — if something here isn't clear, email us and we'll explain.
The app is free, and we intend to keep it that way
WildFire-Ready has no paid tier, no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no plan to add any. If the funding model ever changes in a way that affects you, you'll see it announced in the app before it takes effect.
Companion to 911, not a replacement
WildFire-Ready is a companion to official emergency services. In an emergency, call 911 and follow the instructions of local authorities, Alert Ready, EmergencyInfoBC, and Alberta Emergency. The app is not an emergency dispatch channel and should not be used as one.
No warranty on the data we display
The fire, air quality, road, restriction, and weather information in the app comes from public government sources — BC Wildfire Service, Alberta Wildfire, NASA FIRMS, DriveBC, 511 Alberta, and Environment and Climate Change Canada. We display this data as faithfully as we can, but:
- Government feeds can be delayed, incomplete, or temporarily wrong.
- The map tiles and detection data are published on schedules measured in minutes to hours, not seconds.
- Fire bans and restrictions are authoritative only at the regulator's current posting — always confirm before lighting or travelling.
We provide the app on an "as is" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. You use the information at your own judgement.
Your saved locations and checklist answers are yours
Your saved locations, checklist progress, notification preferences, and Home Ignition Zone answers are stored on your device. They are yours. We do not own them, license them from you, or claim any right to them. You can delete them by uninstalling the app. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Your responsibility for decisions you make
The app is an information aid. Decisions about evacuation, shelter-in-place, property preparation, and burning are yours — to be made in consultation with local authorities and, where relevant, qualified FireSmart assessors. We are not liable for choices made based on information displayed in the app.
Copyright and ownership
© 2026 WildFire-Ready. The app code, design, and original content are the work of Jeff Parr (solo developer, Western Canada). Government data displayed inside the app belongs to its respective publishers and is used under their terms. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control.
Termination
You can stop using WildFire-Ready anytime by uninstalling it — nothing else is required. We can deprecate, change, or discontinue the app (or any part of it) at any time, especially if grant funding ends or the underlying data sources become unavailable. Where possible we'll give notice inside the app before a shutdown.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
Changes to these terms
If we make a material change we'll announce it in the app and update the effective date above before the change takes effect.
