Long

WildFire-Ready is a free, ad-free, bilingual mobile app (English and Canadian French) built for residents of British Columbia and Alberta. It consolidates active fire data, satellite hotspots, fire perimeters, Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) readings, road closures, and evacuation alerts from official Canadian government sources — BC Wildfire Service, Alberta Wildfire, NASA FIRMS, Environment and Climate Change Canada, DriveBC, and 511 Alberta — into a single map view. Alongside live data, the app includes a Home Ignition Zone self-assessment and six preparedness checklists aligned with FireSmart Canada guidance.

The project was built and is maintained by Jeff Parr, a solo software developer based in Western Canada. WildFire-Ready is independently built and is actively seeking grant and partnership funding; it carries no advertising, no paywall, and no in-app purchases. Non-profit incorporation is in progress. The scope is intentionally narrow: BC and Alberta first, with official feeds only. Adjacent provinces and Indigenous-language localization are the next priorities once funding is in place. The app is a companion to 911 and provincial emergency services, not a replacement.
